The influence of art
on the creativity
Abstract
This article presents the results of the research that was
carried out in order to prove that the practice of an artistic
discipline has a positive influence on the increase of
creativity in this case with the tenth grade students of Dulce
Corazón de María School and it is evident that it is
necessary to be able to include an official art subject in the
academic program. Different activities were carried out
with the help of experts in some branches of art such as the
actor and improviser Anderson Balsero and the plastic
artist Felipe Rocha, expert in eco-art, who directed the
workshops to the students. All the development of the
research was done virtually due to the non-presential
classes caused by the covid-19 pandemic. The data obtained
were organized and analyzed respectively, resulting in the
conclusions of the study.

Resumen
Este artículo presenta los resultados de la investigación que
se realizó con el fin de comprobar que la práctica de una
disciplina artística influye de una manera positiva en el
aumento de la creatividad en este caso con los estudiantes
de grado decimo del colegio Dulce Corazón de María y se
evidencia la necesidad de poder incluir una materia oficial
de arte en el programa académico. Se realizaron distintas
actividades con ayuda de expertos en algunas ramas del arte
como el actor e improvisador Anderson Balsero y el artista
plástico Felipe Rocha experto en eco-arte quienes
dirigieron los talleres a los estudiantes. Todo el desarrollo
de la investigación se realizó de forma virtual debido a las
clases no presenciales ocasionadas por la pandemia por
covid-19. Los datos obtenidos se organizaron y analizaron
respectivamente, dando como resultado las conclusiones
del estudio.

Introduction
Art is one of the oldest expressions of human being in which
reality has to be abstracted to create a tangible and aesthetic
work, in such process the human brain has to make
decisions and strive to be as creative as possible. And it is
precisely creativity that helps to face today's world with its
professional and personal challenges in order to achieve
success and stand out in the role it plays in contributing to
the sustainability of the world.
At Dulce Corazón de María School, we only have the basic
subjects of knowledge such as: Mathematics, Science,
Social Studies, Language, English and Philosophy, which is
why we carry out this study with the tenth grade students to
determine the relationship between art and creativity and
how they are linked to each other in such a way that the
students are better prepared to undertake their university

education and later practice their professional career. One
way to enhance this is the implementation of a formal art
subject with expert professors in the area.
It is also important to take into account that creativity is not
only at an artistic level but in all professions or trades since
it is needed in science, in the search for new technologies, in
the sustainability of the planet through ecology, in finance,
in the production and distribution of food in a sustainable
way, in the achievement of peace and tolerance among
countries and many others that are very important for the
life of human beings.
Materials and Methods
For this research, it was randomly selected seven tenth
grade students who developed all the proposed activities.
Due to the effect of the pandemic, the institution was forced
to change from classroom education to virtual education.
The computer and cell phone were used with applications
such as meet and WhatsApp from which surveys were
made, creativity tests and plastic and performing arts
workshops, the materials used were those available to each
student at home. One test was based on Torrance's test
which was designed to evaluate how creative they can be
from certain established figures. A riddle test was also used
to determine the mental agility of each participant. In the
sculpture workshop, everyday elements that the
participants had at hand were used to create an artistic
composition with which their plastic creativity was
evaluated. And finally in the improvisation workshop each
student was given three different words and with them they
had to create a story in one minute where their mental
agility was evaluated.
The approach of the investigation was mixed-method since
it combines the qualitative and quantitative methods in a
single investigation. This method helps to extend the
spectrum of the investigation and gives a more concrete and
exact approach to the information and results.
