The Knowledge about Contraceptive Methods
in Ninth-grade and Eleventh-grade
Female Students.
Abstract
This article presents the results of the research that focused on
the knowledge that the ninth and eleventh grade students had
about contraceptive methods based on some classes that they
had witnessed at the educational institution. In this way we also
wanted to measure the knowledge acquired through the
activities proposed. We wanted to show if they clearly
understood the important use and consequences that
contraceptive methods could bring because they contribute
decisively to decision-making about birth control (number of
children desired or not), to the prevention of pregnancy, as well
as to the reduction of the number of unwanted pregnancies and
teenage pregnancies. Similarly understand that if not put into
use could acquire a disease or infection of sexual transmission.
Several instruments were used to collect the information, which
facilitated the process and helped with the type of approach and
the type of research that this project corresponded to.

Resumen
En este artículo se presentan los resultados de la investigación
que se centró en los conocimientos que tenían los estudiantes de
noveno y undécimo grado sobre los métodos anticonceptivos
basados en algunas clases que habían presenciado en la
institución educativa. De esta manera también quisimos medir
los conocimientos adquiridos a través de las actividades
propuestas. Quisimos mostrar si entendían claramente el
importante uso y las consecuencias que los métodos
anticonceptivos pueden tener porque contribuyen
decisivamente a la toma de decisiones sobre el control de la
natalidad (número de hijos deseados o no), a la prevención del
embarazo, así como a la reducción del número de embarazos no
deseados y de embarazos en la adolescencia. De igual modo, se
entiende que si no se ponen en uso pueden adquirir una
enfermedad o infección de transmisión sexual. Se utilizaron
varios instrumentos para reunir la información, lo que facilitó el
proceso y ayudó al tipo de enfoque y al tipo de investigación a
que correspondía este proyecto.

Introduction
This project was developed with the ninth and eleventh grade
students of Dulce Corazon de Maria School located in Villa de
Leyva Boyacá with the purpose of knowing what their previous
knowledge about contraceptive methods was and what they
acquired during the activities. We sought to understand the
breadth of this concept and how important it was for them to
know each of the methods, how they could define it and what the
types were. Recent studies have shown that the number of
pregnant youth is due to lack of knowledge. It is crucial that in
general both men and women have this knowledge but in this
case the study was only done with women since there are more
methods aimed at the female gender than the male. If we talk
about types of methods women have more to choose from to
feel safe with, clearly it is a topic that touches men because it can
be a couple's decision. Understanding and knowing the use and
degree of effectiveness of each one is extremely important
because we can avoid situations that we do not want in our lives
like a pregnancy at a young age or the threat of acquiring a
disease or a sexually transmitted infection. Their knowledge and
correct application results in a responsible sex life.
Materials and Methods
Taking into account the objectives of the project, it could be
determined that its approach was quantitative since it was based
on statistics, being a probability study when trying to represent
the level of knowledge, thus giving possible answers about why
this type of information occurred situations such as early
pregnancy or STI, and analyzing behavior. His type of research
was descriptive because every detail was extremely important,
observing and describing the behavior without influencing it in
any way. For data collection, instruments such as the survey,
interview and the field diary were needed, each of these with the
in order to obtain clearer and more concise information. Five
female students per course were chosen as a sample for their
contribution to activities that they can be prepared for better
results. Each workshop was designed for one hour, in which the
students watched videos and developed activities based on them
such as crosswords or word searches, on one occasion it was
shared with them through a video call presenting a new topic
and asking what their point was of sight. In addition, for data
collection it was necessary to have individual information such
as surveys and voice notes, since it was a bit difficult to manage
the frankness for the development of the activities, since the
modality with which this project was developed virtually.
