The Use of Free Time During Quarantine
Abstract
In the wake of the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus that
caused a new normal around the world, it was decided to
investigate how the seventh – grade students of Dulce Corazon
de Maria School of Villa de Leyva, Boyacá using their free time in
quarantine. It was analyzed whether they were making a good or
bad use of this time and an attempt was made to encourage the
good use in each student through different activities. All this was
done through a type of qualitative research and with different
tools and methods to collect the required information to later be
able to obtain some clear conclusions about the entire process
that was carried out. It was concluded that most of the students
spent most of their time playing video games on their mobile
phones or consoles, and that very few of them went out to
practice some type of sport to improve their physical activity or
share time with your family. With the completion of this
research, benefits such as the knowledge that the students of the
selected course do in their free time could be obtained, and thus
be able to generate strategies so that they make better use and
with this they can obtain academic and social benefits.

Resumen
A raíz de la pandemia por causa del virus COVID - 19 que
provoco en todo el mundo una nueva normalidad, se decidió
investigar como los estudiantes de grado séptimo del colegio
dulce Corazón de María de Villa de Leyva, Boyacá estaban
utilizando su tiempo libre en cuarentena. Se analizó si estaban
haciendo un buen o mal uso de este tiempo y se trató de
incentivar el buen uso en cada estudiante mediante diferentes
actividades. Todo esto se realizó mediante un tipo de
investigación cualitativa y con diferentes herramientas y
métodos para recolectar la información requerida para después
poder obtener algunas conclusiones claras sobre todo el proceso
que se llevó a cabo. Después de realizar todo el proceso se pudo
concluir que la mayoría de los estudiantes pasaban su mayor
parte del tiempo jugando videojuegos en sus teléfonos móviles o
consolas, y que muy pocos de ellos salían a practicar algún tipo
de deporte para mejorar su actividad física o compartir tiempo
con su familia. Con la realización de esta investigación se
pudieron obtener benéficos como el saber que realizan las
estudiantes del curso seleccionado en su tiempo libre, y así
poder generar estrategias para que hagan un mejor uso y con
ello puedan obtener beneficios de tipo académico y tipo social.

Introduction
This investigation arises from the problems that COVID-19 has
caused around the world, which is why the Colombian
Government decreed quarantine since March that has been
disappearing day by day in order to reactivate the country's
economy. At the beginning of this investigation, there was still a
strict quarantine, so it was thought about how the seventh-grade
students of the Dulce Corazon de María School in Villa de Leyva
Boyacá used their free time.
Students' free time at this age is very important, as it can have
short and long-term consequences, in addition to this, surely
before the start of quarantine they used time differently
compared to how they should be doing it in this age at which
point they cannot leave their homes.
The use of free time marks a very important aspect in the
personal development of the student, since it is during this time
that they carry out the activities that they like and are not
imposed by others. If these activities are good, they will
probably have a good consequence in aspects such as the
personal, the academic and the personal.
Material and Methods
The research project had a qualitative approach; this research is
based on the collection of non-numerical data, and collects
interviews, surveys, points of view or opinions of the research
participants. The direct observation technique was used, which
is based on only observing the individual without altering their
performance of the activity.
The population of the research was seventh grade students from
the Dulce Corazon de Maria School in Villa de Leyva - Boyacá,
the ages of these students are between 10 and 14 years old. For
the participants, five students were chosen randomly for the
data analysis.
In the part of instruments, three surveys, field notes and
interviews were taken into account. The interview was the
instrument with greater ease of use and with which more precise
and clear information could be collected, the field notes were
used to observe how each activity was carried out, seeing
advantages and disadvantages in carrying out these, and finally,
The interviews were used to collect more specific information
about each of the students, with this method, not so generalized
information was obtained.
In total five workshops were applied, each with a different and
